Yesterday I posted an article about the Google street view horse boy that generated some buzz on my site. Although no one has been able to identify the scottish horse boy, one of the commenters, Annie, suggested that it had to be a Google Employee. Who else would sit around in a horse costume waiting for the Google car to come?
Hmmm… yes, who else?
Well, a lot of people would. Dream with me for a second here. Imagine a day where instead of geo-caching and following celebrities, we have entire sites set up to track Google Street view car sightings. Then as the illusive street car approaches we get dressed up as vampires, werewolves, zombies, disney characters, and other very disturbing things.
Imagine a whole town that get’s the heads up that a google street view car is headed their way. Facebook and Twitter abounds and the city organizers get everyone out. Of course all the people on the street would make it hard to see the surrounding area, but it would be a great layer to turn on at least in Google Maps.
If you are ready to become your own street view oddity I just looked and there is a Google Street View car in Palo Alto today. Here is a picture of what they might look like:
Really, if you see any type of car with a tripod and camera on top, quick post it to twitter with the hashtag #googlestreetcar, go and get your halloween costume out and let’s make Google street view a bit more interesting!
